About the Conference
SIMA made its debut in organizing the CEO Conference on “Horizons beyond Spinning” in the year 1997 with an aim to update the textile entrepreneurs on various challenges and opportunities and developments in the textile field and give necessary inputs for strategic planning. The Association has so far conducted nine CEO Conferences on various themes. The first CEO Conference paved the way for the announcement of Technology Mission on Cotton and Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme, the flagship programmes of the textile industry in its history. The 10th edition of the Conference is being organized coinciding the 57th AGM of the Association being held on 22nd September, 2016.

The theme of the 10th CEO Conference is “Navigating future Textile Business”. Indian textile industry has been facing many ups and downs in the MFA period and its phase out period till 2005 due to various factors. But in the globalized environment, the challenges have become unpredictable especially on the availability and cost of raw material, power, labour, Government policies, market demands, etc. To site an example the unprecedented volatility in cotton price prevailed during 2010-11 (cotton price increased to Rs.65,000 per candy from the level of Rs.38,000 per candy in a period of two months and nose divided to Rs.38,000/- per candy within a month making the industry to erode working capital worth Rs.11,000 crores). This recession is termed as the Tsunami for the Indian textile industry in its history and made the government to announced debt restructuring package of Rs.35,000 crores.

The textile industry has been facing a long drawn recession since April 2014 consequent to the recession in Chinese market and changing Chinese cotton policy, sudden withdrawal of various incentives offered for the spinning sector, unhealthy competition created by various State textile policies, GSP plus agreement entered by Pakistan with EU and deriving 9.6% duty advantage when compared to India and also the concessional or zero duty benefits enjoyed by various competing Nations while India continue to suffer with 16 to 20 per cent tariff disadvantage and 23 to 30% expensive manmade fibres etc. The high volatility in cotton price and forex are aggravating the problems. Though the government particularly the Ministry of Textiles has been making continuous efforts to address the aforesaid issues and also announced a special package for garment exports recently, it is essential to have a stable policy creating win-win situation for all the segments in the textile value chain and create a level playing field.

Against this background, the theme of 10th CEO Conference has been selected by the Organizing Committee of SIMA TEXSPIN 2016 to give necessary inputs to the CEOs to manage the business under the current environment and also in the future.
